Image of the Week / Monday 2 Jan -2012 - Moon Maddness
« on: January 02, 2012, 01:49:52 pm »
I'm suthern , so read it like that  8)

I'm MADD, and I'm taking YOU with me .

So BUCKLE UP, this might hurt .

MZADD that is. A possibly unrecognized subset of Acquired ADD, " Moon Zoo Attention Deficit Disorder.
Symptoms may include, but are not limited to; Subject being Moon-eyed, caught Skylarking, inability
to Focus on complex tasks, Loss of time, Jitters, Cold Chills and may lead to, Cold coffee cup
syndrome, Missing meals, and Hallucinations (seeing craters in common everyday objects).

Example - this IOTW stuff. " Wanna do an IOTW " says they, "Sure" says I, " What's that? "  ::)
So out I go to find a thing to do some stuff about. It went something like this ....

This is cool, never done a ridge before, wonder why it's only got rocks on one side ?

Aww, that's probably just the sun angle not showing the rocks on the other side  >:(

But hey, this is cool:

Ditch - OK rille - maybe I can find a cave JF missed ...

There be the unlit side of the ridge with rocks, no story here.

Humm de dumm de de dumm de dumm - OO this is neat:

Pre-ridge crater ..... I could say " Hey this is neat pre-ridge crater " AAARRGgggg!

Nice, eyecandy  :o with bumps and stuff

Wow what's that over there.............................etc, etc, etc.

The coffee pot's empty, the cup is cold, and still no IOTW ......Maybe I could just do a picture instead ..... ::)

Well , next time I'll figure somethin' out....

Have a Nice Day

Moon Zoo Object Collections / Ray Crater exclusion zone
« on: December 25, 2011, 03:10:49 pm »
Sorry for hijacking your top post placid but it's the only way I can add things! This is a great idea for a collection and I just wanted to point people to Tom128's excellent Image of the Week in which Moon Zoo team member IreneAnt explains the ejecta exclusion area in Daguerre Crater. To aid any further analysis can I ask people to post lunar coordinates for each image you post? Happy hunting!
Jules

A spot for "Ray Craters" with dark wedge shaped ejecta exclusion areas . i.e.. looks like someone swiped a pice of the pie .

I want to know more
This is a post from Kjoy in reply to Geoff's IOTW on concentric craters that explains a bit more about Ejecta and the Cratering process

Moon Zoo Object Collections / The hunt for Apollo 16 S-IVB
« on: October 26, 2011, 05:49:48 pm »
*A malfunction resulted in premature loss of tracking data for the Apollo 16 SIVB.
Time, location, and impact energy are estimates based on interpretation of seismic data.
Uncertainty in the Apollo 16 impact time is about 4 seconds.
Uncertainty in the Apollo 16 impact location is about 0.7 deg. latitude, 0.3 deg. longitude.

per, http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/lunar/apollo_impact.html

The given location lat. 1.3  lon. -23.8
