Somewhat related to the crater/boulder/etc illusions that depend on the orientation is this article.

Hi RickNoll and welcome to Moon Zoo.

I don't know of any information about the Apollo astronauts checking for Surveyor impacts during their stay on the Moon. Hopefully some one else will post with me information.

When I see an image that is of certain tones and sharpness with an object on it exhibiting different tones and sharpness I cannot help but think of the two as separate objects, as with this image being a small metalic crystal placed on a hard copy print out of the moons surface.

Lunar Science / Apollo 12 and Surveyor III

Does any one know if Bean and/or Conrad looked for the first and second landing marks of Surveyor III at their site?

Surveyor impacted the moon and bounced 4 times befor settling to where the astronauts found her. After the first impact, surveyour bounced 15-22 meters (traveling 24 seconds), then bounced again, traveling 11-14 meters (12 seconds), the 3rd bounce used up most of the energy and Surveyor came to rest about a third of a meter away. We can all easily find images of the last bounce but I thought the first two bounces would have been on the astronauts lists to look out for and document with a soil impactor gage and photography. The strain gages on each leg registered between 210 and 930 lbs during these bounces. The first touch down was at 10 mph. Traveling approx. in a westerly direction.

I have never been able to find any mention of these bounces, or their footprints in Apollo 12 documentaion. The bounces are only documented in the Surveyor documentation.

Also, aproox. 2 min before landing the main retro solid rocket motor was ejected from the craft. It extended below the spacecraft and would have compromised the landing if it stayed attached. It was ejected about 25,000 feet above the surface, at 240 mph. The rocket motor was 37" in diameter and 58" tall. It's impact site might be visible.

Outer Space / Re: NASA NOT SOUND official trailer

The name of the film has changed and the sound issue is one of five segments.  My research has revealed some truly incredible finds and the sound is probably the least of NASA's worries, although that segment is batting cleanup and packs its own strong punch.

Honored humbled and thrilled to announce that my new feature documentary MOON HOAX NOW will have its world premier on April 17, 2015 at 10:15PM for the opening night of the 8th Philadelphia Independent Film Festival, University of the Arts, Levitt Theater 401 South Broad Street (on the corner of Broad & Pine Streets)
Philadelphia, PA 19102. This is a truly gorgeous theater, and it is a very big year for PIFF as the festival is being run in conjunction with Philly Tech Week which is sponsored by some heavies like Comcast et al. I want to thank Festival Director Benjamin F. Barnett and Screening Chair Melissa O'Donnell for their continuous support of my work. This will be the fourth year in a row I have screened at PIFF and the rewards have been priceless. Furthermore, this will be a double feature screening of my films. More on that to follow. I hope to see YOU there.

FILMINCO PRODUCTIONS presents MOON HOAX NOW a documentary film by award winning filmmaker Jet Wintzer.

Hi BP

This happens to me sometimes and I just reload the window which seems to clear the problem.
