What's the time between reporting and seeing your location on 'live' ? Somehow, even after 30+ mins, I don't  see my location showing up.  :-[

It's described as "near live". Haven't seem me there either - it could be a Moon Zoo challenge to spot yourself! I'll try to find out.

Maybe you check out how many users are there at one point. In my calculations it takes an hour per 900 users to show up your location.

OK the word from the team is that "live" means that every 5 minutes Moon Zoo live grabs the last 100 classifications. So you might appear...or might not.

If anyone sees themselves - why not post a screenshot here? ;)

I think it's a little different than what you say. Looks like the computer grabs 100 addresses and keeps following it until they log out. How else can it be, that the same ppl show up all the time when you look at 'live' ?! Very annoying  :-*
Just try it. Look at the screen and remember just a few ppl. Close 'live' and come back later (5 - 10 mins). Now you see the same ones re-appear again (with new classifications) on your *clear* map.

I see what you mean x303 but that was verbatim the message I had from the Team.

OK - after some research (watching!) what seems to be happening is the same 45 people being repeated over the last half hour. I'll see if I can find out more details.

Hmm, and I've been watching too and it looks like the script that generates the list for Moon Zoo live has stopped working.

In case you're interested this is how Moon Zoo live works:

Every 5 minutes we look at the recent classifications and grab the 50 most recent classifications (by different people).  We then take these classifications, use a 3rd party service to work out where on Earth the Zooite was (by your IP address) then we make a JSON (http://www.moonzoo.org/live.json) list of the names, positions (Moon and Earth) for Moon Zoo live.

As Moon Zoo live runs in your web browser and gets towards the end of the list of 50 to show if requests a new list from the server again.

If at any point the script stops working then by default the server continues to display the last successfully generated  list (which is what you are seeing now).

So basically, if when the script generate you are in the 50 most recent classifiers then you'll show up.

That said, I'm sorry to say I think the service (free) that we have been using to look up IP addresses has fallen over and so I'll look into fixing this today.

Sorry for any confusion caused.

Cheers
Arfon

OK, just a quick update:  I've managed to fix up the problem and so I think you should see much more satisfactory results now :-)

The list of latest classifiers regenerates every 5 minutes (i.e. at 09:00, 09:05, 09:10 etc.) and the Moon Zoo live page should refresh itself to get this list every few minutes.

Cheers
Arfon

Thanks again Arfon! :)
Not sure it grabs as many as 50 (more like 10 - 15) but it is refreshing now.
The IP tracker got my location slightly wrong though!!
(I know they sometimes do)
