Question about the moon's speed
« on: December 18, 2013, 12:22:14 am »
Is it A fact that The Moon travels around Earth at A speed of 2,288 miles per hour and does not travel any faster nor any slower then that? And is it also A fact you cannot see the moon moving at A fast pace across the sky like A car driving down a slow street?  :o

Hi madonnafan and welcome to Moon Zoo.

The Moon's orbital speed is 2,287 miles per hour (3680 km per hour) and I don't think it varies much from that. You can't see the Moon moving because it's a long way away from the surface of the Earth, about 225,000 miles away, so its motion is hard to see.
