Hi Geoff and Jules,
I have been looking over the photo strip for clues as to why the lunar whale formation evolved as it did and I have a whale of an idea

Currently I am thinking that perhaps the area has a thin, brittle coating of lava that flowed over a harder surface and now easily breaks off when meteors hit.
Here are some broken regolith areas to the left of the whale.

More directly above and to the right of the whale.

And here are some other similar broken regolith higher above the whale.

And is all of this related in some way to the incredible impact/ formation at the top of the photo strip?
