The Daily Zooniverse has announced this year's zoocon. It's friendly, informal and free. Hope some of you can make it. :)

It gives me great pleasure to announce ZooCon 2014 in Oxford. ZooCon is our annual conference where we invite our volunteers to join with us and hear about our various projects and what we have planned for the future. This year it will take place on Saturday 2nd August in Oxford. You can sign-up here www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/zoocon-2014-tickets-11978960393. It is a free event, but a ticket is required for entry.

I am also happy to announce a separate ZooCon event for Zooniverse volunteers in Portsmouth. It will take place on Saturday 13th September and you can book your tickets here www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/zoocon-portsmouth-tickets-12005068483. I look forward to meeting you at one of these events!

Are you just coming up for the Saturday BP?

Let us know what time so we can arrange to meet unless you're going straight to the conference.

I think a lot of people are going but are all turning up on different days and different times. Some have arranged to go to museums on the Friday or visit colleges.

Most people will be at the "lecture" on Saturday.

Well we used to be able to know but now we are Blundering about in the Dark only Lit by Moonlight!

I know last year, a number of us (8) were staying at the same hotel, so we had quite a good time. (This time the hotel added £150, so I won't be staying there.)

"Sky at Night" is on tonight - 10-15pm (BBC4).

I regards the GSF suddenly closing, some years ago my team of eight people, were made redundant on the afternoon of the Friday, including the manager, without any warning and we were locked out of our computers.  We made LT ticket machines (hardware/software) and I was highly amused, the next day, when passing through London, to be asked my opinion (for a questionnaire) of these machines - after I said I made them, I gave other opinions.

I noticed that at the bottom of the GZ Talk page, it mentions that it is fact "Zooniverse Talk", probably just an oversight.

It says that on tabs for all the project Talks - probably easier from a design point of view than naming each Talk after its specific project.

I noticed the hotel had put the prices up!

And there's a gathering of zoocon people over in Chat on GZ Talk. :) Hope to see some new faces too - that's always nice.
