Spacecraft?
« on: January 04, 2015, 07:47:24 pm »
There are three large objects in the middle and upper middle of this image. The shadows are longer than the boulders, so that seems unlikely. There are a few spacecraft landing sites nearby. The lowest object, the one located in the center of the image, has a long shadow much like a rocket. The others have shadows that appear more like castles. What are these objects?

Hi Vorpalbunni and welcome to Moon Zoo.

All the objects you can see in your image are boulders. The shadows are very long because of the low sun angle.

There are some luna landers nearby, 'Luna 23' and 'Luna 24', but not at the coordinates of your image. You can see where the known luna landers are located by looking at this thread: Lunar Lander Coordinates

Hi Vorpalbunni,
You might find this useful - shadows on the Moon can make things look strange. :)

Thank you Geoff and Jules.
I thought the shadows these boulders cast looked too much like castles to be boulders. Things on the moon are indeed strange.

I've bookmarked both links you provided.
Thank you again!
