If I'll find something impressive...
« on: February 07, 2011, 06:22:28 PM »
Hey all! I'm novice over here and tried to find out (reading forum and instructions) that what will happen if somebody find something very impressive from these photos? Does he/she get a mail of it or something like that (so that he/she knows that he's the glorious)  ;) ?

Hi mika, and welcome to Moon Zoo.  I'm not entirely sure what the policy has been, but I think that the idea is that if you find something unique or are the discoverer of a new kind of object (not sure what that would be ...) then you would get acknowledged by name in any science paper(s) that come as a result.  That's how it should work on the science side.

In terms of notifying you, I would think that should be in the pipeline somewhere. ;)  That may be done through the forum moderator team and/or science team because the mods are always looking for new, cool, and exciting Images of the Week to post and a new discovery would definitely count there.  Perhaps one of them can chime in and let you know if/how this has worked in the past.

Hi mika and welcome to Moon Zoo! If you find something interesting the best thing to do is to post it here on the forum. Members of the Moon Zoo science team visit here regularly and they will be able to tell us if something is special or not. Then  we can highlight it in the Image of the Week feature.

You should also use the interesting feature tool to mark anything of interest while you are classifying. It should be possible to identlfy which users mark interesting features. How this would work in practice I'm not sure. It's a good question and I will find the answer for you and report back.

Ah.... I see astrostu has just beat me to it!!!

Meanwhile enjoy your time on the Moon! :D

Hi astrostu and jules, and thank for helping me start to the surface of moon! :-)

As you wrote, I’ve use interesting tool for mark something what I suppose that is something interesting for science teams. I already found sinuous channels, but didn’t mark it! :-/ Why? Because at that point I hadn’t watch the guide video and didn’t know that there’s a tool for these kind of discovery. Well, next time I’ll do the marking.

I must take an overview in forum and find out that what kind of discovery others have done, so that I know what kind of objects are interesting and what are just ordinary light playing in the moon.

Thanks both of you to help me start over here! :-)

Hi Mika and welcome to Moon Zoo.

You could start by looking through the Image of the Week thread which has some interesting places on the Moon.

In a couple of forums, reference has been made to a tool which allows you to view the strip of images from which the one you were looking at was taken, as well as to get the coordinates of the image.  I have not been able to figure out how to do that, and I have marked a number of interesting features, but have never seen options for strip views or coordinates.  Also, to post an image to a forum, do I just copy and paste, or is there a process?

Thanx!

The tool for looking at the NAC images is explained here. There is always a link to the relevant NAC image via My Moon Zoo. Look for your image in recents or favourites and click for more details.

Picture posting info is here. Copy and paste won't work I'm afraid.

Any problems / questions just shout.

Thank you!  I was starting to feel a little dense because I couldn't find the controls.
