Marking a Boulder Wars picture
« on: March 12, 2012, 03:44:15 pm »
I've just seen a very strange anomoly in a Boulder wars picture. Its probably a boulder track but it starts and finishes outside the sides of the picture so there's no boulder present in the photo. The trail itself is wierd though because rather than being a continuous line, its more of a line of dashes as if whatever object actually bounced along the surface of the moon. There's also a second trail that is much fainter but runs parallel to the first one.

The problem that I have with it is that because its in Boulder Wars, there'd no way as far as I can tell of marking the image as a favourite. The only way I've been able to record the image to show you all is through printing it off and then scanning it. Its a far from perfect way of recording the image, but as you'll see from this jpg, it works.  ;D

Cheers. Ewan.

Boulder tracks on a slope . The dotted trail is fairly common to boulder tracks  . The texture of the ground ( regolith ) if fairly indicative of slope weathering .

If you go to My Moon Zoo and look at the "Recents" list, your images should be there.

Here is a good  example of the texture difference in sloped and flat . Sloped being the lower portion of the pic and flat being the top .

And once you find your image in "recents" there are a couple of ways to track down the boulder. Either click the arrows which appear when you hover at any edge of an image to move to the adjacent section or better still click on the NAC image link (using the small NAC strip marked with your image location as a guide). We have found a variety of boulder tracks suggesting that boulders roll, bounce or slide to their resting place. I think you're right - you have a bouncer there!

But the original question, is there any way to mark a boulder track when you are in boulder wars? I thought I spotted one this afternoon and I marked it as a linear feature. Now when I go back to "my moon zoo" it's difficult to navigate the images as the links are all identical (that is, I say to myself, I've checked images 1-10 in the list, now I scroll down, but where am I in the list? Which ones have I not revisited yet?) Thanks.

You are right. It is difficult to keep track of the list in favourites and recents when you scroll. It's just a case of persevering at the moment. I don't know whether this will change in the next update but I will ask. I know that the facility to add boulder wars images to favourites is on the list but the method of finding a favourite needs to be improved! Meanwhile marking tracks as linear features is fine.

If you have a particular image you like, i think you can add them to your browser favourites. That way you'll not lose it.
